Walkers
Welcome
We
are amidst some of the best walking country in Britain,
yet Shropshire is relatively unknown. All around is designated
an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with some of the most
beautiful and varied landscapes just waiting to be explored.
The long distance “Shropshire Way” almost passes
our doorstep.
Have
a look at www.shropshirewalking.co.uk
for lots of ideas.
Not
only do we do quite a lot of walking ourselves so have a
good understanding of what you may be looking for, but Old
Quarry Cottage also has accreditation under the VisitBritain
“Walkers Welcome” quality assurance scheme,
so you can be sure that we are specially geared up to meet
your needs.
There
is a very smart separate heated drying room for those muddy
boots and wet clothes – packed lunches and early breakfasts
can be arranged – and we are more than happy to act
as transport if we practically can, for instance if embarking
on a non-circular route, walking the Shropshire Way, or
travelling by train. Public transport is very few and far
between in this rural area, but there is an initiative of
small shuttle buses specially aimed for walkers at the weekends
during the summer.
Look at www.shropshirehillsshuttles.co.uk.
When
enquiring about a booking, please don’t be hesitant
to ask about anything you may be considering and for any
suggestions we may have. We aim to make everything as easy
for you as we can.
Cyclists
Welcome
We
also have a “Cyclists Welcome” accreditation,
and with one or two notable exceptions the roads in Shropshire
are quiet and ideal for cycling. There are many miles of
National Cycle Network routes along quiet lanes, traffic
free tails along old railways and waterways, and mountain
bike trails in woods and forests.
Also
interestingly here in Brockton we are on one of the recognised
Lands End-to-John O’ Groats routes.
As
part of our drying room there is a space for overnight cycle
storage which has the advantage of being in a heated area
and is ideal to dry out wet panniers in addition to waterproofs.
